Corazon de Vaca
The Bridging Project
How do we build bridges between cultures when we don’t share language? This is the question Australian-Spanish physical theatre company, Corazon De Vaca, asked their artists to explore in the making of their new work, The Bridging Project. This highly acclaimed production, fresh from the World Expo in Spain, 2008, has been re-developed for a season at the Victoria Hall in Fremantle in August.
The work of Corazon De Vaca is “highly original and innovative [and has] helped [to] deepen the level of cultural understanding between Australia and Spain.” — Edward Palmisano, Cultural Attaché, Australian Embassy, Madrid
The Bridging project takes inspiration from the stories and backgrounds of the performers. Using the collective languages of the 5 actors & dancers(English, Ngoonyar, Swedish, Spanish, Catalan and Portuguese) it reveals the bridges being built between cultures in Australia today. It is an enjoyable contemporary performance for dance lovers, travel junkies and anyone who has ever migrated even if only from their own comfort zone.
Bridges like migrants make real a passageway that once seemed impossible. They cross troubled waters, rocky chasms, vast land and culture. They stretch out over highways, over pathways and over adversity. Bridges are a symbol of human union in wood, steel or stone or simply in the gesture of an extended hand indicating a course to follow. YouTube – Corazon de Vaca Manifesto
