Acting Workshops

Sign up for a series of acting workshops, led by Deckchair Theatre’s Artistic Director Chris Bendall with guest workshops from leading theatre practitioners. Develop your craft as an actor, and explore approaches to contemporary performance, with focus on character development, voice, physical theatre, status, impulse and improvisation.

Apart from being an award-winning theatre director, Chris is a highly sought after acting tutor having taught adults and teenagers at schools throughout Victoria including Victorian College of the Arts, the Victorian Arts Centre, St Martins Youth Arts Centre, Centrestage School of Performing Arts and the National Theatre Drama School. He has also guest directed at WAAPA. All workshops have strictly limited places so don’t miss out!

INTRODUCTION TO ACTING – Are you secretly a talented actor?

Unleash your inner artist and unlock your creativity, with this seven-week beginner course intended for adults with limited or no previous experience or training. Dip your toes into the world of acting with these fun and energetic workshops!

*Date: Mondays April 19 – June 14
Time: 7.30pm – 9:30pm

INTERMEDIATE ACTING – Refine your Skills!

A seven-week course intended for adult actors with some previous experience or training. Explore improvisation, develop monologues and contemporary scene studies. Take your craft to a whole new level!

*Date: Mondays July 19 – Monday August 9
Time: 7.30pm – 9:30pm
Cost: $215 full price / $185 concession*

SCHOOL HOLIDAY WINTER WORKSHOPS

A fun week of drama aimed at teenagers aged 14 to 17. Sharpen your improvisation skills, hone your craft through script and scene work, and find new skills in voice, physical expression and character.

*Dates: Monday July 5 to Friday July 9
Times: 10am – 3.30pm
Cost: $250*

MASTER CLASS – WEEKEND ACTING WORKSHOPS

A two–day intensive course for those who are serious about extending their skills as an actor. Focusing on working on a contemporary short scene, you will explore voice, movement and stagecraft working with industry professionals.

*Date: Saturday April 10 and Sunday April 11
Time: 10am to 5pm daily
