Script Development
SCRIPT SUBMISSION
We have an open door policy regarding scripts and new writing and we welcome all proposals.
All scripts should be accompanied by a synopsis and full author’s CV. For a work-in-development proposal, please submit one full script (ideally previously produced) alongside the proposed work.
If the submission is a proposal for a commission or development of an as yet unwritten script, at least two examples of prior (ideally previously produced) written work are required.
We encourage you to first consider the suitability of your work to the deckchair program before submitting. This includes considering both the form and style of your play as well as how the work’s content and thematic material fit with the artistic philosophy of the company.
Please send hardcopies of any scripts/submissions as unsolicited scripts will not be accepted via email.
Please note that although we attempt to read all scripts and proposals submitted to the company, due to limited resources at present we will not be able to respond to every submission and cannot guarantee feedback. You should allow 3 to 6 months for a response.

We are currently supporting a number of local playwrights to create and develop new work, through commissions, mentoring and dramaturgical support. These playwrights currently include: Ingle Knight, Hellie Turner, David Milroy, Kate Rice, Peter Docker, Reg Cribb, Sally Richardson, Mark Storen, Shirley van Sanden and Suzanne Ingelbrecht. You can look forward to seeing more from these playwrights when their new work comes to fruition in our 2011 and 2012 programs. This work has been made possible through the generous support of the Malcolm Robertson Foundation.
PlayWriting Australia – Postscript
Deckchair Theatre is one of a number of theatre companies nationwide participating in PostScript, a new initiative from PlayWriting Australia which gives unknown or unproduced playwrights an opportunity to have their unsolicited script read and assessed by a representative from a leading theatre company. These assessments are stored in a shared database that can be accessed by literary managers and artistic directors nationwide.
